Director of Medicinal Chemistry

We are seeking to hire a Director of Medicinal Chemistry. This leadership position will afford the opportunity to create clinical candidates in an emerging and exciting biological field that translates into a pipeline of differentiated medicines. The preferred candidate will be a highly motivated and influential leader, with a strong record of accomplishment in medicinal chemistry and project leadership. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading medicinal chemistry/project teams while applying a deep understanding of drug discovery techniques to senescence biology with the goal of developing therapeutics for the diseases associated with aging.

Job description and required experience

  • Accountable for scientific strategy, timelines and team performance
  • Experience with effective leadership of functional and/or project teams and strategic planning in a small to mid-size biotechnology company
  • Ability to prioritize resources that manage complexity and ambiguity in a highly matrixed work environment
  • Translate project strategy into a discovery screening path consisting of critical assays for each function
  • Identify critical data that test project hypothesis to allow key program decision making in a timely manner
  • Integrate data across multiple research disciplines to evolve medicinal chemistry strategy as the project develops
  • Responsible for developing and coordinating project intellectual property strategy
  • Comprehensive knowledge and creative application of medicinal chemistry across a range of therapeutic areas, including oncology
  • Influential communication of innovative ideas with a plan for advancement
  • Extensive experience in synthetic methodologies with application to broad range of molecular classes
  • Creative design utilizing computational modeling software, structure-based design techniques
  • In depth knowledge of medicinal chemistry strategies as relates to local administration
  • Experience in when and how to apply prodrug and soft drug strategies to achieve desired pharmacokinetic profiles
  • Application of systemic targeting strategies
  • Record of success in leading collaborations with external research organizations, including academic institutions, contract research organizations, and other pharmaceutical companies
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal, presentation and communication skills


  • Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry
  • Minimum of 10 years medicinal chemistry experience in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Quantifiable record of accomplishment in drug discovery
