We are seeking to hire a Senior Research Associate/Associate Scientist to join the cellular and molecular pharmacology team at Unity. This position will afford the successful individual an opportunity to be part of a highly motivated and engaging group of scientists searching for novel molecules to treat diseases of aging. As part of the Unity team, you will discover and develop innovative drugs for an emerging and exciting biology and to translate our science into a pipeline of differentiated medicines. The ideal candidate should be a highly innovative and creative scientist with hands on experience with in vitro models for the identification of novel molecules and application of informatics solutions to the drug discovery process.  Combining biology and research informatics, this position spans across research aligned functions and beyond to understand biology, discover new therapeutics and develop new technologies.

The successful candidate will be a strong lab-based individual contributor and a team player who synergizes with other scientists. The scientist in this role will support progression of candidate molecules through the in vitro critical path. The duties of the job include experimental design and execution, analysis and QC, interpretation of data, and presentation (verbal/written) of findings to the Discovery team. The candidate will have an important role in the generation of key datasets that are critical for the declaration of clinical development candidates. In addition, the candidate will serve as a point person to identify and support informatics solutions for data capture, analysis, and visualization. This includes supporting colleagues across the organisation to create solutions for everyday problems as well as supporting new initiatives, screening programs, experiments, inventory management and assay development in Discovery in the areas of data capture, analysis and reporting.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the Life Sciences with 6-10 years of scientific experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, a Master's degree and 2-6 years of experience, or a PhD in a relevant research field.
  • Design and execution of quantitative human cell-based microplate assays utilizing automation/robotics and hands-on experience with human and rodent primary cells.
  • Direct experience in developing in vitro assays (both cellular and biochemical) to interrogate molecular target engagement and downstream physiological endpoints.
  • Experience with pharmacology principles, assay development and validation, and medium-throughput small molecule screening funnels for a variety of drug discovery assay data (g., biochemical, cellular, in vivo).
  • Familiarity with common informatics languages such as SQL, Python, Java, or R; experience with experimental documentation within an ELN (g., Dotmatics)
  • Ability to deliver alone or within a team environment. Able to work effectively with internal colleagues and collaborate externally.
  • Exceptional communication, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.
  • Strong track record for scientific and technical independence.

 

Preferred:

  • Experience in drug discovery (g., understanding of PK/PD relationships).
  • Experience in mammalian cell transfection and engineering.
  • Experience with multiplexed antibody-based detection methods (e.g., Luminex, MSD/ELISA).
