Unity Biotechnology, Inc (UNITY) is a privately held development-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing innovative pharmaceutical therapies that dramatically increase human health-span.  We are located in the San Francisco Bay Area and are seeking to hire an experienced and highly motivated senior manager / associate director of program management to work with our frontier and discovery project teams. The successful candidate will have strong leadership skills in multidisciplinary teams settings with experience in early stage target identification & validation science and preclinical characterization up to IND enabling studies.

Responsibilities :

• Work in close collaboration with scientists to plan and explore nascent biological hypothesis testing for progression into therapeutic drug discovery programs
• Align and coordinate scientific direction and activities between internal and external scientists (academic and industrial CRO collaborators)
• Support drug discovery programs transitioning into in vivo animal studies (including models to assess the early safety and efficacy of potential candidates)
• Design and implement project plans to allow data driven decision making
• Develop timelines (Gantt charts) for the tracking of project deliverables and task interdependencies
• Identify program risks and resource limitations allowing for the development of mitigation and contingency planning
• Drive project meetings with a focus on agendas, meeting minutes and actionable next steps
• Construct and track program budgets to align with organizational financial planning
• Responsible for R&D project management processes including annual program goal setting & quarterly reviews, prioritization of key project objectives, go/no-go decisions, data reviews based on key milestones

Background and skills :

• The ideal candidate will have a background in science with prior experience managing projects in academic, scientific or drug discovery organizations
• Bachelors degree required, PhD in biology or chemistry preferred
• 5+ years relevant work experience, 1-2 years direct project management experience in academic, biotechnology or pharma industry settings
• Demonstrated ability to manage and lead teams in early target identification and pathway characterization for drug discovery projects
• Evidence of advanced problem-solving, innovative thinking, strategic planning to deliver creative solutions
• Ability to work collaboratively on multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent organizational and analytical skills with a keen attention to detail
• Outstanding interpersonal skills to form and maintain strong relationships
• Willingness and dedication to go above and beyond in pursuit of team goals
• Experience with large and small molecule therapeutics approaches beneficial
• Inflammatory, pulmonary or ophthalmology disease area experience considered advantageous
